BartKart ("we," "us," "our," or "the App") is a marketplace platform that lets users barter, rent, and sell items with each other. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using BartKart, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

If you have questions or concerns about this policy or how your data is handled, contact us at akankshabansal94@gmail.com.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account and Profile Information

When you sign up and set up your profile, we collect:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • City and state
  • Profile photo (avatar)

1.2 Identity Verification (KYC) Information

To build trust between users and enable higher-trust transactions, BartKart offers an optional identity verification flow. If you choose to verify your account, we collect:

  • Government-issued ID documents (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, or Passport)
  • Address proof documents (e.g., utility bill or bank statement)
  • A live selfie photo for identity confirmation

These documents are stored securely and are used only to verify your identity and calculate your in-app "Trust Score." They are not shared with other users or third parties except as described in Section 3.

1.3 Listings and Content You Create

When you create a listing to barter, rent, or sell an item, we collect the item descriptions, category, pricing, and photos you provide.

1.4 Transaction and Payment Information

Payments are processed by our payment partner, Razorpay. We do not collect or store your card number, UPI PIN, or full bank account details — these are handled directly by Razorpay's secure payment gateway. We store limited transaction metadata such as amount, currency, status, associated listing/rental, and Razorpay reference IDs.

1.5 Communications and Social Features

If you use in-app messaging, social/community features, or contact support, we collect the content of those messages and requests.

1.6 Device and Notification Information

To send push notifications (payment confirmations, rental updates, messages), we collect a device push token, plus basic technical info like app version and device platform.

1.7 Location Information

With your permission, the App may access your device's location (while in use) to help you discover nearby listings. You can decline this and rely on your manually entered city/state instead.

1.8 Photos and Camera/Gallery Access

BartKart requests camera and photo library access so you can upload profile pictures, listing photos, and verification documents. We only access photos you actively choose to upload.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Enable listings, rentals, sales, and barter transactions
  • Process payments and subscriptions through Razorpay
  • Verify identity and calculate trust/verification status
  • Send transactional notifications
  • Provide customer support
  • Maintain platform safety and security
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Improve and personalize the App

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. How We Share Your Information

With other users: Name, profile photo, city/state, listings, and Trust Score/verification badge are visible to other users. Your phone number and exact address are not shared unless you choose to share them (e.g., to coordinate pickup).

Service providers: Supabase (database, auth, storage), Razorpay (payments), Firebase (push notifications) — each contractually bound to protect your data.

Legal requirements: Disclosed if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect rights, safety, and property.

Business transfers: May be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this policy.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure (Supabase) with access controls (Row Level Security). Verification documents are stored in a restricted-access bucket. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please keep your login credentials confidential.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information while your account is active or as needed to provide services. Verification documents and transaction records may be retained longer for fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You may:

  • Access and update your profile anytime via Edit Profile.
  • Withdraw consent for location access or verification via device/app settings.
  • Request deletion of your account and data — see our Delete Account page (some data may be retained where legally required).
  • Control notifications via device settings.
  • Request a copy of your data by contacting us.

7. Children's Privacy

BartKart is not intended for individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children; if discovered, it will be deleted.

Review these providers' own privacy policies for details on their data handling.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
